Acacia victoriae –‘Elegant Wattle’
Native to the Pilbara, Gascoyne, and Murchison regions of WA, the Elegant Wattle is used for its seeds, which when ground are used as a flour. Often used to make damper, and an interesting addition when making pastas and other breads. Spines from the shrub are useful for removing splinters.
Harvest seed pods through Summer and roast before grinding into flour.
This evergreen shrub has an extensive root system useful for soil stabilisation and nitrogen fixing. It has adapted to a range of soil types, though it prefers an alkaline soil. Salt, wind, and moderately drought tolerant. Grows to 5m.
